Hall of Fame Member William Richardson Passes

Dr. William J. Richardson, NCU honored professor of church history and Christian Ministry, passed away June 6, 2010 in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Richardson was one of the inaugural members of the NCU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Dr. Richardson is considered to be the father of athletics at NCC. He served as the first Faculty Athletic Representative and was the driving force behind starting an intercollegiate men's basketball program in the fall of 1959. He also founded the Willamette Christian College Conference, The Crusaders first association.

He wasn't the first Division I transfer in NCU history, but he might have had the biggest impact. After signing to finish out his collegiate basketball career with the Beacons on February 24th, 2009, Ben Voogd came and led the Beacons to a fifth-place finish in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and in the process became NCU's first ever NAIA All-American.

On October 16th, the 1983 Men's Basketball team was inducted into the Northwest Christian University Athletic Hall of Fame. The '83 team was the first to win a National Bible College Athletic Association National Championship.
