PORTLAND, Ore. –The Northwest Christian University men’s golf team won their second consecutive tournament on Monday and for the first time in school history, the Beacons were victorious in a Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season event, posting a 12-shot victory over Corban and Concordia in the Concordia Invitational.
The CCC event, being played as part of the larger Concordia University Invitational, consisted of two rounds of action on Monday. NCU trailed Corban by three shots after the first round, but hung a 299 on the second-round scoreboard to finish the tournament at 602. Both Corban and host Concordia finished with a 614 final score.
Leading the way once again was senior
Justin Ahrens, earning medalist honors with a school-record 139 performance. Ahrens shot a three-under 69 and finished at 4-under par after carding a 70 in the afternoon round.
Brent McKee finished third for the Beacons, shooting a 73-75=148.
Chase Cleaver (pictured)opened with an 83 in the morning but quickly rebounded to score his best collegiate performance with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon. Cleaver finished in 8th place with a 154 final score.
Josh Samples followed in 16th (78-83=161) and
Michael Lambert was in 28th (87-85=172).
Northwest Christian continues play on Tuesday in the Concordia Invitational, behind held at Heron Lakes Golf Course in Portland. Through the first two rounds, NCU’s 602 was good for a third-place overall, behind Rocky Mountain College (569, 7-under par) and University of Victoria (597).
