Brent McKee put together his best tournament in two and a half years, leading the Beacons to a fourth-place finish at the College of Idaho Invitational which closed out on Tuesday.
McKee fired a 222, his second-best tournament ever, fueled by a pair of even-par rounds of 72 on day one. The junior closed out the tournament with a 78 on Tuesday to claim fifth place. The Beacons scored a 931 overall to take fourth, but were third among Cascade Collegiate Conference teams. Concordia won the tournament with a team score of just 880, a combined +16 to par.
NCU’s best team performance came in the first round on Monday, firing a 299. It was just the fourth time in school history that the Beacons came in under 300 for a round. In that round, McKee fired his 72, followed by senior
Justin Ahrens and junior
Josh Samples with three-over 75’s, and freshman
Kyle Dube with a 77.
Ahrens finished the tournament in a three-way tie for 8th place (75-71-80=226). Samples claimed 26th (75-82-83=240) and Dube was right behind in 28th (77-83-83=243). Sophomore
Chase Cleaver also made the trip for the Beacons, scoring an 82-83-83=248, good for 33rd place.
Northwest Christian will close out the season next week at the CCC Championships, taking place at Diamond Woods Golf Course in Monroe, Ore. on Monday and Tuesday.
