PORTLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s track team has had a strong combination of youth and experience on display all season, and that was never more evident than at the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday. Freshman
Michael Bennett set a pair of school records, and junior
Sam Robison (pictured) topped his own record once again in the 5000m race.
Bennett began by topping his own mark in the 800m run by two tenths of a second, running in 1:59.13. He then took to the 1500m race for the first time in his collegiate career, making it a good one with a school-record time of 4:05.50. His time shaves more than eleven seconds off of the former best mark.
Robison knocked another second off of his own 5000m record (15:47). The junior had already qualified for the CCC Championships in the event.
Junior
Brandon Kundert established a personal record as well in the 5000m event, running in 15:51, the third fastest time in school history. Kundert’s previous PR was broken by 22 seconds in an impressive showing. Also breaking personal records in the 800m were Kevin Whyte (2:17.88) and
Benton Urquhart (2:02.86).
Also running on Saturday were
Levi Dieu in the 1500m (4:20.52) and
Robert Rich in the 5000m (16:31).
The Beacons will be back in action on May 1st, running in the Pacific Twilight, their last tune-up event before the Cascade Conference Championships begin on May 13th.
