EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University spring student-athletes are at the top of the class in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, with an astounding 82% of eligible students earning CCC Scholar-Athlete honors.
The Beacons ranked fourth in total numbers, behind College of Idaho (34), Concordia (24) and Corban (24), despite not having a baseball team and not fielding a full track & field team (only competing in distance running events). The Beacons had just 28 athletes eligible, with 23 of them being named a scholar-athlete, awarded to student with at least sophomore standing and a 3.2 GPA.
By percentage, NCU’s 82% represents a large gap ahead of second-place Corban College at 44%. The College of Idaho was third at 42% with Concordia further back at 25%.
Highlighting the list for Northwest Christian were a number of multiple winners, include junior Brent McKee, a two-sport athlete (basketball and golf) who had now earned four CCC Scholar-Athlete awards. Other multiple winners include seniors Bethany Howard (3) and Ashley King (3), along with many two-time winners.
The NCU softball team, which last year ranked #1 in the NAIA for team GPA, had nine recipients this season, out of just ten eligible student-athletes. No other CCC softball program had more than six honorees.
