KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A record nine Northwest Christian University student athletes were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the spring season, as announced by the national office this week. Among the recipients, five are earning their second scholar-athlete, while one becomes a three-time honoree.
Women’s golfer
Ashley King (Blue River, OR), a junior math major, is a three-time honoree, having also been named an NAIA scholar-athlete for women’s basketball last season. King was joined from the women’s golf team by first-time nominee
Jordie Holland, a junior interdisciplinary studies major.
Two-time winner
Brittany Robles (Bend, Ore.), a senior majoring in teacher education, was joined by two other softball players. Junior teacher education major
Lissa Hatefi (Willamette HS), and junior accounting major
Brooke Davis (Sherwood, Ore.) were selected for the first time.
The men’s golf-team’s lone representative was junior
Brent McKee (Sheldon HS). The accounting major is now a two-time winner after also earning scholar-athlete honors for men’s basketball.
Having all earned scholar-athlete honors for cross country, junior math major
Sam Robison (Flagstaff, Ariz.), junior English major
Rob Rich (Beavercreek, Ore.), and senior interdisciplinary studies major
Bethany Howard (Philomath, Ore.) become two-time winners after qualifying for distance track this season.
To earn recognition as an NAIA scholar-athlete, a student must be nominated by their head coach, have achieved junior academic status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
