KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – 2010 Northwest Christian University volleyball recruit Cori Wallace grabbed a huge honor on Thursday, winning the 39th Annual Mike Keck Memorial Scholarship as the top scholar-athlete in Klamath County.
Wallace, a setter hailing from Henley HS, is the reigning Skyline League Player of the Year after a record setting senior season in which she earns All-State honors and was named to the All-State Tournament team after leading the Hornets to a deep playoff run.
She was a four-year varsity letter winner in basketball, three-year letter winner in volleyball and a four-time state qualifier in track and field. She gained numerous all-league honors and helped Henley to state track and field titles in 2008 and 2009.
Wallace’s coach Joe Tacchini said, “As an athlete, Cori is the type of player that high school coaches dream about. I have been impressed with her as a person and one of the most impressive things is that I have never witnessed her do something unethical or treat another person with anything but respect and consideration.
Her athletic director, Wayne Amos said, “Cori is a person of high morals, character and integrity. She is a hard worker and very focused on the tasks at hand. She get along well with people of all ages, while being an excellent role model for young students and athletes.”
Wallace joins her older sister Taylor, a track athlete at the University of Oregon, as the only pair of sisters to be honored with the $1,000 scholarship.
