Editor’s Note: This is the third in a 10-part series recapping the Top Ten sports moments of the 2009-2010 year at Northwest Christian University as compiled by the Beacon Athletic Department. On May 8th, 2010 a record number of student athletes walked across the stage and received their diplomas, graduating from Northwest Christian University.
The 25 graduates represent the first year of graduates from NCU’s initial “expansion” year of 2006 when the athletic department expanded their offerings to include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball. Men’s and women’s golf were then added the following year.
Among the 24 student-athletes who got their diplomas were three who earned Northwest Christian’s highest academic honor, Summa Cum Laude. This honor, given to students who graduate with a 3.9 GPA or higher, were bestowed upon four-year athletes
Erik Quick-Warner and
Brittany Robles, as well as former women’s basketball player Kristina Neet.
An additional four student-athletes earned Magna Cum Laude, having graduated with a GPA between 3.7 and 3.89. They are four-year athletes Jeneca Crocker and
Bethany Howard, along with former men’s soccer player Brandon Holland, and former men’s basketball and golf athlete Jeremy Chappell.
Cum Laude honors are given to any graduate who finished with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.69. Former cross country and track runner Emily Baynes earned that distinction.
